I don't know what I expected when I signed up for my hive ecosystem credentials earlier today but I certainly did not expect to be sucked down a rabbit hole this incredibly engrossing. I think I believed that it would be either totally empty, filled with nothing but posts with days of no activity. Conversly, I expected it to be so brimming with spam my eyeballs want to bleed thinking about it. I am pleased to report that it was neither.

I am reminded of my old forum days, back before social media and universal accounts. Finding an informative website with an attatched forum, signing up with excitement, and then eagerly checking to see how active it is in the hopes that it will be. I am reminded of webrings, of weird lists of loosely affiliated info sites, fueled by passion and love. Each site connected to the next, with no real affiliation of anything other than topic.

I have my reservations about this whole new direction of the web, but it will be hard pressed to be worse than what facebook and the like did to my beloved web.
